Murrabit Cod Challenge 2024
The Murrabit Football/Netball Club held their annual Murrabit Cod Challenge fishing event over the weekend of the 15th-17th of March. Entries were capped at 300 adult tickets and this year joined by 49 juniors. 100% run by local volunteers within the club, the event is the club's biggest fundraiser event for the year.
Mother nature turned on some beautiful weather and despite river conditions being very low that didn't seem to affect the fish biting. A total of 14 legal size Murray Cod over 55cm were measured and 16 Yellow Belly over 30cm. Being a catch and release event all native fish were released back into the water.
The lucky winner of the major raffle, a 399 Stacer Proline Boat, 25 HP 4-Stroke Yamaha Motor and Trailer valued at $16,490 was won by Eddie Wright from Wodonga. Second raffle prize winner was Greg Webster of Melton with an engel portable fridge/freezer followed by third prize winner Ross Hartland of Lake Boga taking home an electric boat motor.
Several competitors praised the club with how well the event is run each and every year, from catering to the overall hospitality.
Coordinator of the event Brent McKnight was happy with the overall running of the event and praised the hard working local volunteers. It was also noted the event would not be possible without the support of their generous sponsors in Molin’s Motorcycle & Marine, Murrabit Trading, Blue Sky Swan Hill, Engel, Geoff Gillingham, Barry Tanner from Boatcatch, Johnson’s Auto Marine & Caravan Centre, Kj’s Outdoor & Marine.
